It’s been almost 3 months since I published “Innovation” on both YouTube and Nico Nico Douga. The video currently has 48,000~ views on YouTube and 12,000~ on Nico Nico.
Never in a million years did I ever think it would do so well, as it’s got almost double the number of views on all of my previous AB videos combined. For those who watched it, I’d just like to say a massive thank you – Ever since I started doing videos for the Saisei LP, this was the video I’d wanted to make for 8 months, and I’m glad so many people were willing to sit through the entire 17 minutes of it.
I think one of the greatest traits of the video is that the character interactions and the fusion between the game and anime scenes make it relatively accessible to anyone who loves Gundam in general, and just not Super Robot Wars.
So, below is an amalgamation of feedback which I’ve sort of collected and summarized from various sources, but especially Nico Nico. I like uploading to Nico Nico because of Japanese viewers’ attention to detail. In fact, they were even accurately able to tell which games I sourced character voices from. While it may seem nitpicky, this is exactly the kind of feedback needed to level up one’s game.
Best Moments
Camille and Shinn’s team up against Hilling.
The Gundam reinforcements arriving to aid Celestial Being.
The final fight with Ribbons. In Nico Nico, the screen is totally clogged up with ktkr comments!
Nitpicks and Criticism
During the battle with the A-LAWS, people were confused as to whether Anew was saved or not. (Her portrait randomly appears)
When Camille blocks the GN Mega Launcher shot for Shinn, he says 「シン、ここは任せろ!」(Shinn, leave this to me!). This was actually the quote for when Camille actually Support Defends Shinn in game, but obviously something like “Shinn, get out of the way!” would’ve been nicer.
After Revive is destroyed, Kira, Athrun, Trowa and Roybea go on a beam spam to take out the Gaga army, but it isn’t exactly clear (it looks like they massively overkilled Revive).
No Turn A Gundam.
Heroine ‘deaths’ – No it’s not a sexist thing (lol), but I wanted some losses on the allied side, and most of them happened to pilot MS with uninteresting attacks. It was fun being Tomino for a while though :P.
Weaboo subtitles. Japanese viewers had a laugh at “Go to hell!”. It was worth a shot, right?
The endings – you either hated them or loved them, and the “I am Gundam” ending had people confused with the Tallgeese.
Final Comments
It’ll be interesting to see where this video stands in a year or so. But for now, I’ll settle for 1000 likes and 50K views as the next major milestones. On another note, I hope this inspires more people to make these kind of SRW MADs, because there’s a huge wealth of possibilities out there, even in Saisei Hen alone.
I have one video planned for this year. Whether or not it will be better than this one is hard to say, but it’s a challenge I’m willing to accept. It will take a while because I have to gather and watch the required footage, and because I’d like to take things a little easier this time around. I’ll post more about it in the weeks to come.
And once again, thanks to all who watched and liked this video 🙂
Random Tweets & Comments
Holy shit that was intense from beginning to end and it was awesome to watch, the edition on the scenes from the game and the animation made the battle seem very natural and the selection of the music added a very good plus to the overall video, a stellar job indeed all around.

Dude, this is……AMAZING!! I’m flabbergasted, honestly. What you manage to do with this, just the animations in the game, the clips of the animes, the voices of the game and the shows….IN-CRE-DI-BLE. Please, don’t stop doing these! 😀

You earned those comments for being an expert choreographer. Keep it up.
I have a little suggestion for the Macross Frontier final battle (if you intend to do an arranged battle of that).
When the Macross Quarter pulls off the “Macross Attack” on Battle Galaxy, you could show the standard scene of the Variable fighters (at least I THINK they’re variable fighters) popping out of Quarter, but then cut to the background used in the VOTOMS final battle (or something like that), showing several units deploying (for example, Daitarn 3, Leopard Destroy, Heavyarms Kai, Infinite Justice, and the Big O), cut to Catherine Glass giving the order to fire, show the VFs opening fire, but then showing Daitarn using the rapid-fire Sun Attack, Big O using O Thunder, and Leopard, Heavyarms and Justice unloading their respective arsenals on Battle Galaxy’s insides.
Just a thought.
@Dancou-Maryuu
That’s a really interesting idea.
Is there a YT clip of the VOTOMS scene you’re talking about so I can check it out?
